The poor French version has a good story, but the sheer amount of violence (and the general lack of decent production values) makes it a chore to watch. It's also a very confusing film, and there's no clear starting point, so the first 10 minutes are a total guessing game! However, as a film that essentially tells the story of the Thai-Cambodian conflict, as well as being a good tale in its own right, it's not bad at all. If you're going to see Ong Bak, don't go to France. Instead, go to England, where it's been cleaned up a bit and made more palatable to Western tastes. It's a great film, but only for about two hours. On the other hand, if you're looking for a real belly-laugh, go to France. If you want to escape the real world and just have a good time, go to England.
The English version is considerably better. It's still a film that needs to be seen on a large screen with a great surround system, but it's also worth watching a few times on TV. It's funnier, uses more of its action sequences as almost a mini-short story, and has more dramatic set pieces and a better ending. It's also extremely well-acted (particularly by the three biggest names in the business: Richard Gere, Gary Oldman and Anthony Hopkins) and features more memorable characters than its rival. For me, it's the far superior film. It still can't compete with Ong Bak, but this version still has plenty to offer!
Thank God for the English version. When I first watched it I didn't like it, and I'm not the biggest fan of the genre. However, I realised as I watched it a second time that it's actually quite well-made. It's not quite as violent as Ong Bak, but is still pretty bloody, and features some good action. And it's not boring, and it's got a good story (although it's a pretty tired one). It's definitely worth a watch, but the French version is pretty much a completely different film.

I used to be able to download more than one file per license from 3D Warehouse at the same time.
