Service Pack 1 contains support for BootMGR when Windows Vista SP1 is installed on a computer with an earlier version of Windows. However, this is not the case when Windows Vista SP1 is installed on a computer with a later version of Windows.
Service Pack 3 adds support for Windows Boot Manager and allows pre-spunning of Windows Boot Manager to fail with an error message that states that the latest version of Windows Boot Manager requires the latest version of Windows that is installed on the system. For pre-spunning of Windows Boot Manager to fail with an error message that states that the latest version of Windows Boot Manager requires the latest version of Windows that is installed on the system and the same version of Windows is not installed on the system, perform the following procedure:
Restart the computer in normal mode. If the computer boots into the Windows Vista operating system, proceed with install. If the computer does not boot into the Windows Vista operating system, proceed with modifying Windows Boot Manager as described in the following sections. d2c66b5586
