The final exercise involves drawing an action that is both choreographed and sequential. This drawing depicts a ballerina entering (left), leaving (middle), and performing (right) a toe-and-heel pointe. It consists of four sequential drawings using only two colors (light and dark), two hatching levels, and three light lines. The various apperances of the ballet shoe has been incorporated into the drawing. I drew the figure in a combination of hatching and line work, then replayed the action as a video frame-by-frame. By drawing this figure limb-by-limb, you begin to see how the entire continuous motion is a combination of movements of individual parts.
It's important to understand how the entire action flows from one to another before you can separate the figure into small components. In this way, you have a better understanding of how the body moves. Herzog & De Meirleir also offer another figure drawing workshop.
These techniques can be applied to a nude figure as well. Working from film, freeze-frame, or frame-by-frame can make this more interesting and creative. For example, in the initial drawing of the figure in profile, you can render the arm with wire, even though the arm is not articulated. (You may want to begin with a more recognizable anatomical structure, such as the face or head, so that you can reference the pose more readily.) In the final drawing, study the relationship of the top of the head to the nose and the eye socket to the cheekbones. Compare the relationships between the various parts. For example, note how the left leg bends in the heel-to-toe stance, compared to the right leg which pivots in the same plane.
In order to understand the relationship of anatomical structures, you may want to superimpose the initial drawing of the figure on top of the final drawing. This way, you can easily compare and contrast the poses of the body.
As mentioned above, my life has become pretty busy lately, and I will not have time to maintain support for GoldSrc: Google Translate anymore. I may release smaller updates here and there in the future, but since most people don't seem to want anymore mistranslated GoldSrc games (which is totally fine), I don't really see the need to continue maintaining the project. Of course, I have enabled community-uploaded downloads, so if you would like to embark on Google-Translating a GoldSrc game or modification, please feel free! If you want even more Google-Translated Half-Life, my good friend Gyarik is currently heading the development of Half-Life 2: Google Translate edition, which you can find here: ( Moddb.com ). All three of the voice actors from this project will have roles in the sequel, so you should definitely stay tuned! d2c66b5586
